Great! Carefully read the text below. Then, if you still want to be an expert, send us a detailed e-mail message. Include the type of expertise you have, your qualifications, and any other helpful information.

What you need:

1. Expertise! Your expertise can be in a particular hobby, career-related, or something totally obscure. But it must be genuine expertise. Before we accept you as an expert, we’ll need to review some credentials and/or references.

2. E-mail, at the very minimum. However, we prefer experts to have their own Web sites. This gives us a better feel for your level of knowledge and ability to respond to questions. Also, we like to see solid educational content on your site.

What you get:

1. Personal satisfaction from helping to educate students and people who have genuine curiosity. Knowledge is meant to be passed on! We do not offer monetary compensation to our experts.

2. Good PR – From a public relations perspective, providing assistance to educational endeavors is a feather in your cap, so to speak. Ask An Expert has been featured nationally in many magazine and newspaper articles for the assistance it provides to students.

3. Increased site traffic – Ask An Expert is a very popular site, as you can imagine. The traffic at our site is, shall we say – robust. The link to your site could be viewed by several thousand people every week. The number of additional visitors to your site can vary depending on a number of factors.

Other issues to consider:

1. Number of questions – As an expert, potentially you could receive a large number of questions. Carefully consider whether or not you can devote the time it takes to respond to the questions in a timely manner. By narrowing your area of expertise, you can reduce the number of questions. For instance, you might opt for the title "Trigonometry Expert" rather than "Math Expert." You can always broaden your title later.

2. Unreasonable requests – The majority of our visitors are very polite and ask excellent questions. A few, however, do not use proper etiquette when inquiring. We don’t expect our experts to fulfill any unreasonable requests such as completing a student’s entire homework assignment or sending instant responses. We don’t want this to discourage any potential experts, but we thought it necessary to warn you in advance.

3. Contact us – If you have any questions about becoming an expert, or if you already are an expert and wish to change your expert status, send us an e-mail message.
